Welcome to Rowan Cottage - A modern spacious 3 bedroom bungalow. Leave your coats, shoes, wellies in the vestibule and enter …
Let’s head to the kitchen and breakfast room first. Here you will find all of the modern conveniences you would want during your stay:
- cooker and hob
- microwave and combination oven
- large fridge/freezer,
- and all the crockery and cooking utensils to cater for up to seven people.
The family room, part of the kitchen has a small comfy sofa and table and chairs for four people, offering a great communal space to relax and chat whilst cooking dinner.
Next door is the dining room, which is wood panelled with a dining table which can seat up to 7 people. Beautifully decorated it makes a harmonious setting to enjoy some of the fresh Islay produce available on the island.
The living room faces west and provides wonderful evening views of the sun setting over Loch Indaal and the Atlantic, after dusk the twinkling lights of Port Charlotte and the Rhinns are visible. If you want something more stimulating there is a flat screen tv with integral DVD/CD. The wood burning stove creates the cosy setting to toast your toes and sip a glass of malt whisky on those chilly evenings. Wi-fi broadband is available
The second twin bedded room is in calming and soothing blues. There is a fold-away bed if needed in this room.
The bathroom has a large luxurious shower and a bath and a heated towel rail.
The utility room is where you can do your washing and ironing and gain access into the garden and patio.
The storage cupboard is stocked with games, boule and badminton racquets and offers space to pack away your bags.
The large airing cupboard houses the controls for the solar panel and tank. This provides all the hot water you will need which is heated by solar energy.
We would also encourage guests to “compost” as much as they can and use the compost bins.
Rowan cottage is designed with the very best building insulation meaning whatever the weather it is always warm and cosy.
As the house is a new property situated in one acre of moorland we are in the exciting position of creating a garden from scratch. This labour of love will take us many years to complete but we have already made a start by creating a wildlife pond in the lee of a hill. The bog garden is now planted and we have created a mixed woodland using native trees. Still to come is a driftwood and boulder garden.
Relax on the patio area and view the garden’s flowers.
We hope to create a habitat which will be a haven for wildlife and an inspiring and restful space for guests, which draws on the backdrop of hills, ocean, lochs and big skies. Follow our garden progress on rowan cottage blog.
Sorry no pets allowed and because of the pond and unfinished garden we would not recommend it for families with small children.
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warmBob Dylan
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm"
The gulf stream effect keeps the temperature mild all year round, supporting a rich diversity of plants.
We have now planted 20 young rowan trees which are part of our mixed woodland.
